Wednesday Opera • Rossini’s ‘Cenerentola’ is a bubbly comedy (dramma giocoso) that depicts the adventures of Angelina, a lovely impoverished and mistreated girl. With the help of Alidoro, a bearded fairy godfather if you wish, she is able to attend the Prince’s ball and find her eternal love. When Goodness eventually triumphs, Angelina can give voice to her joy and embrace her new happy life. “But by a sweet spell […] My destiny was changed. No longer sad by the fire, will I stay warbling no!”. Here we see the beautiful Frederica von Stade (1981).
Venetian Monday • Bellotto 1740. A young painter arrives from Venice and gives shape to the imagery of Tuscany. International art curator Bożena Anna Kowalczyk gathered paintings, prints, etchings, drawings and documents to orchestrate this wonderful exhibition. You can read more about it in the Autumn Issue of The Yellow Gloves, theyellowgloves.com/2019/11/09/bellotto-1740/ by @karolka.ina

Bibliotuesday • Brett F. Braley-Palko ushers us to the British countryside and the many books to read about the activities one could enjoy. ‘In tallying up the books I have read this year, I noticed a trend. Of the 38, more than a few have included a hunting weekend as the backdrop of the plot’s circumstance. From the Duchess of Devonshire’s memoirs including a section on Harold Macmillan learning to shoot to the mishaps surrounding a hunting party in Mitford’s Highland Fling, I seem to have a penchant for the moorish stage on which these aristocratic endeavours are set…’ • You can read the full article on www.theyellowgloves.com/2019/11/09/hunting-for-relevancy-the-rise-of-british-sport/
PALLADIAN Monday • Who's in that car? In the #countryside near Vicenza, lies a #place where the beating heart of one of the greatest #artists of all time lives on: that of Andrea Palladio. The place is his transcendent villa La Rotonda, heavenly married to the surrounding #landscape. The fortunate guardians of this masterpiece are the generations that the #villa has had and have the opportunity to live in, preserving its inimitable #splendour and #beauty. We had the opportunity to know a little bit better those who have a privileged relationship with Palladio and his villa. We sat down to tell you more about the conversation we had with B. di Valmarana. • In the picture, HRH Princess Margaret of York with her husband leaving La Rotonda. On the top of the staircase, on the far left, stands on crutches Countess Marina di Valmarana. Picture courtesy of B. di Valmarana and the Valmarana Family © all rights reserved. @villalarotonda
